Couples must have a Tennessee marriage license to be married in Tennessee. Simply appear in person at any Tennessee County Clerk‘s office or one of the Marriage License Centers in Sevier County. Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville are all located in Sevier County. No appointment is necessary, but the Courts request pre-registration online.

Both the bride and the groom must appear in person and present a valid photo ID such as a driver’s license or a passport. Both must also present a social security card or other SSN documentation. Both parties must be at least 18 years of age. If either applicant is under age 18, please call the Marriage License Center for additional instructions.

The cost of a marriage license in Sevier County for out-of-state couples is either $41.00 in cash or $43.00 with either MasterCard or Visa. Out-of-state couples may purchase a marriage license in any other county in Tennessee, but it will cost approximately $60 more.

Couples may pre-apply online for a marriage license. Just go to seviercountytn.gov and then to the Marriage Services section. The fee is $48.00 for out-of-state couples and $108.00 for Tennessee couples. Couples must still appear in person at a Marriage License Center in Sevier County to show a photo ID before they can pick up their marriage license.

Please note that no witness is needed for the marriage to be recognized, but there is room on the Tennessee marriage license for one optional witness to sign.
